The Samtengang Trek from Punakha to Wangdue Phodrang is short and fascinating. Since the elevation only varies from 1100 to 1900 m and the temperature remains pleasant throughout, it is a reasonably simple trek up. You will pass through rhododendron and oak forests, the villages of Sha and Chungsakha, and the longest footbridge in Bhutan on your route to these sites. While the walk may be done in the winter, early spring or late autumn are the optimum times to go.

Day 01: Arrival – Thimphu (54km, 01 hour)

Day 02: Thimphu Sightseeing
After breakfast, followed by a visit

Day 03: Thimphu – Punakha/Wangdue (71km, 2 hours)
After breakfast, drive to Punakha through the Dochu-la pass (3,088 m). The highest peaks of the Himalayas are most magnificently visible on a clear day.

Day 04: Punakha – Limbuka (9km, 4 hours), Trek start
The trek begins upstream from Punakha Dzong, crosses the longest suspension bridge in Bhutan, and ascends the Po Chhu valley. The Punakha valley has two harvests, allowing for ample activity in the winter months. The valley also produces fruits like bananas and oranges. After a 2.5-hour hike, a beautiful clearing with a prayer flag and a beautiful view is reached. The chorten, Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal, can be seen in the distance. The road to Dochu La can be traced, and snowy peaks like Jumolhari, Kang Bum, and Tiger Mountain may be visible. The campsite is located at 2220 m, just behind the village of Limbukha, which has several large old houses and a lake. The village hosts a special annual ceremony to irrigate the fields and is believed to have once had a king.
Day 05: Limbukha – Chungsakha (10km, 4 hours)
The climb starts at a ridge (2370 m) in a dense forest, with a visible ridge visible from the summit. The trail is unclear and slippery, but after 2 hours, you reach Dochen La (82645 m), a small pass with stunning views. After a steep descent, you reach Dagegon, a beautiful old farmhouse, Samtengang village, and Chhuni Gompa. Walk alongside Drukpa Kinley’s old monastery, Dargyel Gompa, and a meditation cell. At 1850 m, you reach Chungsakha, a village with a simple chapel and a three-year festival. The campsite is located in front of Lhakhang.
Day 06: Chungsakha – Samtengang (4km, 3 hours)
From Bae Chhu, 1500 m, to Samtengang Village, the trail is clear, somewhat steep, and passes through various settlements. The trail traverses degraded canyons, which are slick in the rain. Beginning in December, the daphne flower blooms. At Samtengang High School, which opened its doors in 1952, the ascent comes to an end. The route passes by Lutshokha Lake, a sacred lake, and a small valley. After lunch, you have the option of visiting Samtengang or staying at camp.
Day 07: Samtengang – Chhuzomsa – Paro, Trek Ends
The trail today commences close to camp and is difficult and steep. As it approaches the Dang Chhu valley, it passes through numerous agricultural fields until it finds a road right close to the bridge. where our representative will be ready to drive you to Paro. overnight stay in Paro.
Day 08: Hike to Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest)
Drive to a hiking location after breakfast. The Taktsang Monastery is perched on a ledge of rock. It is believed that Guru Rinpoche, the second Buddha in Bhutan, is claimed to have arrived in the 8th century flying on the back of a tigress and meditated where Taktsang Monastery currently stands.
Lunch will be served in the town’s top tourist eatery. followed by a visit.
Evenings are free to stroll around Paro town. spending the night in Paro.
Day 09: Departure
After an early breakfast, drive to Paro airport for a flight to your onward destination.
